In the first 30 days in office, Sheriff August and his Command Staff have followed through on their commitment to the citizens of Darlington County.
Accomplishments:
1. Command Staff worked on an Operational Plan to address contraband and other criminal activities that were occurring in the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center. This has led to approximately 60 new charges being brought against current inmates. This operational plan is on-going.
2. Command Staff has begun an extensive review of the current budget. Future budget requests will be made to carry out proactive policing strategies while keeping the taxpayers’ best interest in mind.
3. Command Staff is actively working on organizing a “Street Crimes Unit” to address criminal activity in identified areas of the county that involve the use of a firearm and overall property theft throughout the county. The goal is to implement this team in the next 30 days.
4. All equipment, to include vehicles, body worn cameras, firearms, drones, etc. are being evaluated to determine what is needed by personnel to effectively carry out job duties. Safety equipment or the lack there of will be addressed. Vendors for existing equipment are currently being contacted, and meetings are being held to ensure the capabilities of the equipment are being maximized and officers have the latest equipment.
5. Sheriff August has worked hard in the first 30 days to increase transparency and keep the public notified of events in the county. Social media posts have increased, and “comments” have been allowed on posts to hear concerns and thoughts of citizens.
In the month of January, there was an increase in call volume for Mental Disorders, Psychiatric Disorders, & Attempted Suicide. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, please call the hotline 988 or text “HOPE4SC” to 741741.
As always, we would like to thank the citizens of Darlington County for electing this team into office. Our duty is to serve and protect the citizens in this county and we will continue to do so with transparency. If anyone has any information and/or concerns, please contact the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office at 843-398-4501.
